Retail Volunteer

Overview :

The Retail Volunteer is the initial point of contact the public have when entering the shop and is responsible for the efficient operation of the shop. The Retail Volunteer is not responsible for internet-based sales.

The responsibilities of the Retail Volunteer are :

  • Engage with customers in a positive way and ensure that they pay the correct price.

  • Process cash and card payments.

  • Manage the cash float and cash up at end of day.

  • Ensure day’s takings are given to the Lead Retail volunteer or Duty Supervisor

  • Keep the shop and the displays clean and tidy.

  • Move and display stock.

  • Ensure the security of the shop and the merchandise.

  • Provide information about the site and customer facilities.

  • Ensure that health and safety regulations are met.

  • Reporting any issues to the Retail Lead Volunteer or Duty Supervisor

  • Reporting any urgent issues to the Retail Lead Volunteer or the Responsible Officer.

Qualifications :

  • Commitment to excellent customer service and a great work ethic. 

  • Good communication and numerical skills. 

  • Being able to work as part of the retail team, supporting the team where required.

  • Enjoy or willingness to learn the retail role 

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Good knowledge of the Heritage Centre. 

Training :

The Retail Volunteer will be expected to undertake training as required, paid for by the Heritage Centre.

Accountability :

The Retail Volunteer will report to the Retail Lead Volunteer or the Centre Manager
