Miniature Railway Volunteer
Overview:
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Miniature Railway team and help run and maintain the 7 1/4” gauge railway. Our little railway consists of 3 stations, Old Works, Forge End and Spider Bridge. It is about 600 metres from Old Works to Spider Bridge via Forge End. Each station has a turntable and two platforms allowing the locomotive to be turned at each station.
Typically you will start with a station attendant’s role, learning how to change points, operate the turntable, couple and uncouple locomotives. Then you can progress to guard where you will be in charge of the safe operation of a train while in motion. The final stage is to be able to take the controls of one of our petrol/hydraulic locomotives and become a train driver.
The miniature railway operates weekends and bank holidays along with Wednesdays in Cheshire East school holidays between Easter and the end of October. On Wednesdays outside of school holidays we meet to do maintenance work on the infrastructure and rolling stock.
No previous experience is necessary as full training will be provided.
