Green Spaces Volunteer

Overview

This is an exciting project-based volunteer opportunity to help create a wildlife corridor and six new green spaces on our museum site, enhancing biodiversity and environmental sustainability. The role is financially supported by the Julia Rausing Trust. It involves practical tasks such as planting, habitat building, and caring for green spaces. The project runs until June 2026, but we anticipate that some volunteers will continue supporting the museum’s green initiatives beyond this date.

Responsibilities :

• Support the development of six new green spaces for visitors and wildlife.

• Assist in creating and maintaining wildlife corridors on the museum site.

• Build, install and maintain habitats such as bug hotels, bird boxes and small ponds.

• Help plant trees, shrubs, and wildflowers to enhance biodiversity.

• Care for plants and green spaces, including watering, weeding, and seasonal maintenance.

• Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers to achieve sustainability goals.

• Follow health and safety guidelines and use provided tools responsibly.
  

Experience :

• Interest in nature, wildlife, and environmental sustainability.

• Enjoy working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.

• Basic gardening or DIY skills (not essential but helpful).

• Physical ability to carry out practical tasks such as digging and lifting.

Training :

The Green Spaces Volunteer will be expected to undertake training as required. This will be provided and paid for by Crewe Heritage Trust.

Time Commitment :

This role requires a commitment to attend at least once a fortnight.
