Museum Guide

Overview :

The Museum Guide Volunteer is the customer facing ambassador of the Heritage Centre with a key role in delivering the visitor experience.

About Us :

See history brought to life and discover the story of the small farming community that was transformed into the railway capital of the world. Constructed on the former site of the Grand Junction Railway Works, we’re now home to iconic locomotives and an impressive collection of artefacts that celebrate the past, present and future of Crewe.

Our team of dedicated volunteers are passionate about inspiring our visitors’ curiosity in the people, businesses and engineering marvels that call Crewe their home.

The responsibilities of the Museum Guide Volunteer are:

  • Engage with customers in a positive way.

  • Provide information about the site, exhibits and customer facilities.

  • Ensure that health and safety regulations are met.

  • Ensure the security of the exhibits.

  • Reporting any issues to the Tour Guide Lead Volunteer or the Responsible Officer.

Qualifications :

  • Commitment to excellent customer service and a great work ethic. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Being able to work as part of the Museum Guide team, supporting the team where required.

  • Enjoys engaging with visitors.

  • Ability to improvise and adapt when sharing information.

  • Good knowledge of the Heritage Centre and the exhibits.

  • A passion for the Heritage Centre and the exhibits.

  • Smart appearance.

  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Willing to fulfil a regular commitment on rota.

Training :

The Museum Guide Volunteer will be expected to undertake training as required, paid for by the Heritage Centre.
