MK3 DVT & Coach

Donation of MK3 DVT and MK3 Coach

We’re pleased to announce that Porterbrook Leasing has kindly donated a Driving Van Trailer and Mk3 coach the Crewe Heritage Centre, these vehicles were a common sight through Crewe for many years and will make a fantastic addition to our collection. We intend to display the vehicles alongside our Class 87 electric locomotive 87035 ‘Robert Burns’ to create a short train set, 82118 and 12114 were chosen as ideal candidates for preservation as they ran with 87035 on its last service in 2004.

We intend to utilise the space inside the DVT as an exhibition area, with the driving cab open to visitors. Our plans for the Mk3 coach include a general sitting area and a classroom for school visits during the week. In the long term we plan to externally paint the vehicles into a prototypical British Rail livery.

Rupert Brennan-Brown, Porterbrook’s Director of Stakeholder Engagement, said “We are delighted to see these vehicles go to a good home, where they can show the evolution of passenger travel on the West Coast Main Line to future generations.”

We also like to extend our appreciation to Locomotive Services Limited for generously offering to transport the coaches to Crewe for us. We are expecting to take delivery of these coaches within the next couple of months. While Crewe Heritage Centre remains closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak we anticipate that these coaches will be on display when the Heritage Centre reopens.
