Grant Funding Supports Collections Care Audit

We are pleased to share that we have recently received £1,200 in grant funding from the Association of Independent Museums (AIM) with the Pilgrim Trust to support a Collections Care Audit.

The funding enabled us to bring in a professional conservator, Peter Meehan, to review our collections and offer expert guidance on their ongoing care. The audit confirmed what makes our collection so special, which is its wide variety of objects, displayed and stored across both indoor and outdoor settings and provided helpful insights into how we can continue to care for them effectively.

As part of the review, we received practical, prioritised recommendations to support the long-term care of the collection. This includes advice on managing environmental factors such as light and humidity, helping us to further improve how objects are displayed and protected while remaining accessible and enjoyable for visitors.

The audit has also identified a number of objects that would benefit from additional conservation work or closer monitoring. This information is already helping us shape a new conservation plan and a clear, prioritised programme of work. These steps will guide our future efforts and support funding applications to care for individual objects and enhance how we share our collections with the public.

We are very grateful to AIM for supporting this valuable behind-the-scenes work. Their contribution helps ensure our collections remain well cared for, so they can continue to be enjoyed by visitors now and in the future.
